Right and Wrong

In Hawaii, a Republican leader sent out an email that got the issues of religion and politics both right and wrong. Jonah Ka'auwai, Chairman of the Hawaii Republican Party, argued that churches should not invite the Democratic gubernatorial candidates to speak in their churches. Apparently, the campaign officials of one of the candidates was attempting to book such events. On this point, the Republican leader got the issue right. Churches should not invite candidates to host what are basically campaign events during worship services. However, Ka'auwai's concern was not that but rather that he believed the Republican gubernatorial hopeful (Duke Aiona) is the only "righteous" candidate. He wrote:

We need to fearlessly, like David did Goliath, run towards the unrighteous enemy. Duke Aiona’s Campaign for Governor is the Body of Christ’s opportunity to operate in the AUTHORITY and to be proactive. ... With more than 400,000 Christians in the State of Hawaii, WE are responsible no matter what the outcome of Duke's race because we have been given the POWER and the AUTHORITY in the NAME OF JESUS!!!!

In his long, odd email that includes numerous scripture quotations, Ka'auwai makes the mistake of assuming the candidate of his party is God's candidate and those of the other party are inherently anti-God. Thus, when it came to issues of religion and politics, he got it both right and wrong (but mostly wrong because he was right for the wrong reasons).
