Last Saturday, I ventured into D.C. to attend the "Rally to Restore Sanity" held by comedians Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert. Estimates put it at being a couple times larger than Glenn Beck's rally a couple of months ago and the metro set an all-time ridership record that day. I can say from personal experience that the metro was truly (and ironically) insane. However, unlike many people, I got an early ride and was able to get to the rally in time. I could barely see the people on the stage but actually was fairly close in comparison (being in the front ten or fifteen percent of the crowd). A lot of big names celebrities were part of it, including Sam Waterston, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, John Legend, Sheryl Crow, Kid Rock, Jusuf Islam (Cat Stevens), Ozzy Osborne, Tony Bennett, and "The Mythbusters." The music was good and the jokes were funny. But, most importantly, Colbert and especially Stewart did a great job of putting forth their serious message about the need for more civility and sanity in political discourse, more cooperation and compromise between those of different perspectives, and more restraint and responsibility in the media. Below are some photos I took of the individuals on the big screen (since they were so small in live form).
