Barack Obama was on campus Tuesday. More than 7,500 people were allowed in, and several thousand more were not. People stood in the cold wind for hours to get in, although I got a press pass so I was able to get in without much wait. This was the first time a Democratic presidential candidate has campaigned in town since Stephen Douglas (also a Democratic Senator from Illinois) in 1860. A lot has obviously changed since then--Abraham Lincoln was not on the ballot in Virginia because it was a slave state. It will be interesting to see if Obama's visit helps him in this Republican city. John McCain has not been to the area during this campaign. A couple photos are below, and you can see more here.

Please forgive me if I have overlooked relevant posts, but, while I see no endorsement of Obama for President on your site, I also see no righteous concerns regarding some things for which he stands.
ReplyDeleteThat is not entirely surprising, as pinning him down to what it is he does stand for is a bit like catching a greased pig.
However, one thing that is entirely clear and an issue that no Bible believing, born again Christian can, in good conscience, overlook, is Obama's well-documented support for Planned Parenthood and abortion - including partial birth abortion - and his lack of regard for the life of babies who manage to beat incredible odds and arrive alive during an abortion attempt.
Perhaps you are familiar with Gianna Jesson's plea to Barack Obama.
Something to think about as Nov 4 draws near.

Thanks for the comment, but I think you missed my reason for going to the rally. I went because he was in town. I would have gone to see John McCain if had come. And you did not miss my endorsement of Obama because I have not made one. When I was in Iowa on the night of the caucus, I attended the victory rallies of the two winners--Mike Huckabee and Barack Obama. My attending an event does not represent support.
ReplyDeleteI disagree, however, that you seem to think no Christian could support Obama. Salvation comes from Christ alone and not from whom we vote.
