The big political news today was that televangelist and political wannabe Pat Robertson endorsed Rudy Giuliani for president. The announcement seemed to prove that Robertson is more focused on power and being seen as a "king-maker" than standing up for his principles. After all, just imagine the awful claims he would have made about a thrice-married pro-choice New Yorker if that person was the Democratic nominee. But considering his comments about assassinating people, crazy leg-press claims, and his false prophesies (such as the one that God said he would be elected as president in 1988), there is probably little damage today's news can do to Robertson's reputation (there is only so low one can go, after all).
Rudy, on the other hand, seems to be really gambling on this one. He may pick up some conservative Christian voters who still trust Robertson (sadly there are still some), but he will also upset a lot of others. Additionally, his comments about Robertson today should make us question Rudy's judgment. He stated:

I am very encouraged by Pat's support. ... His confidence in me means a lot. His experience and advice will be a great asset to me and my campaign.Really? Rudy is going to be taking advice from Robertson. God help us! I guess tomorrow Rudy will outline his plan to assassinate Hugo Chavez, drink miracle protein shakes, and destroy Dover, Pennsylvania. At that point, Rudy's campaign would end up doing as well as Robertson's.
2,000 was a lie.
ReplyDeleteBut from what I've seen, the guy can quasi-press 1,000 pounds which is pretty dang impressive for someone his age
Check it out here
yes Rudy has.
ReplyDeleteBut God told Pat...
Maybe there is some strategy here that we aren't seeing on the surface. Having Pat endorse Giuliani will drive conservative, evangelical voters away from him for sure.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the comments!
ReplyDeleteBDW: You are right that what he can do is impressive. Had he just been honest he could have impressed us all. But by exaggerating (a nice way of saying "lying") about it, he embarrassed himself.
Kevin: Ha!
Lee: That's funny! I don't think Pat's that's clever.
