Fundamentalists like to claim they are the only ones who truly believe the Bible, and anyone who disagrees with them will be attacked as not really believing the Bible. Leaders of the Missouri Baptist Convention have used this argument to claim that the political power struggle is really about who believes the Bible. They claim they are the ones “committed to teaching the Bible as the inerrant, infallible Word of God.” Yet, despite this claim, they have spent millions of dollars suing Baptist ministries.
When the lawsuit was originally filed, the MBC leaders argued that the action did not violate 1 Corinthians 6 because they were suing corporations and Paul was only condemning the suing of individuals. The interpretation seemed quite questionable, but now is irrelevant because the MBC is suing individuals as well as Baptist ministries and secular companies.
Therefore, even with their own hair-splitting interpretation they are violating Scripture. So, who really believes the Bible now? It is one thing to say you believe, but an entirely different thing to actually live it. After all, faith without works is dead. It is time for the real Bible-believing Baptists to point out problems such as this one.

I don't understand this at all. They are not reading the Bible either.
ReplyDeleteThe ACLU collects BILLIONS of dollars by suing the government for public displays of the Christian Faith.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the comments!
ReplyDeleteKevin: I share your confusion. I am saddened by the wasted money and negative publicity that has resulted because of the lawsuits. We need to focus more on inviting people to church instead of dragging them to court. We need to give our money for missions and not lawsuits. May God help us!
Kris: Not sure what your point is. I am talking about Christians suing Christians. If you are saying the MBC is wrong just like the ACLU, then I’ll agree with you.
