A Jewish leader has come out and attacked conservative Christians.
Reform Jewish leader blast religious right Rabbi Eric Yoffie made a Hitler comparison in his speech:
"We cannot forget that when Hitler came to power in 1933 one of the first things that he did was ban gay organizations."
While it would be wrong to suggest that today's Christian leaders are anywhere close to the Hitler or his murderous regime, Yoffie is correct to note a similar attitude toward homosexuals. His comparison, however, is inappropriate since Hitler's regime killed millions of people. But he did go on to make a good point:
"Yes, we can disagree about gay marriage. But there is no excuse for hateful rhetoric that fuels the hellfires of anti-gay bigotry."
Yes, it is time to turn down the rhetoric! Conservative Christian leaders are not Hitler by any stretch of the imagination, but the hateful—and thus un-Christ-like—comments made by many are wrong and hurtful.
