The April 2017 issue of Word&Way explores includes many photos and stories from around the world. Here are the pieces I wrote for the issue:
- My editorial, Judging Faith, on the Ten Commandments, legal fights, and our public witness
- An article, Baptist Minister Debates Atheists at MSU [not online], on a moderated debate about religion and happiness at Missouri State University
- The cover package on the holy lands. The first piece, The Other Holy Lands, considers how many other countries - like Jordan and Turkey - are holy lands like Israel. The second piece [not online] is a photo essay from my trip to Jordan last October. The third piece [not online] is one I merely complied that features stories from Baptists in Israel, Lebanon, Iraq, and Syria talking about life and faith in their nations.
- An article, Former White House Official Reflects on Faith, Politics, on a talk by Melissa Rogers, who served as executive director of the White House Office of Faith-based and Neighborhood Partnerships
- An article [not online] about a recent visit to Missouri by Baptist World Alliance President Paul Msiza of South Africa
- A Q&A interview with Msiza on the BWA and his experiences as president
- An article, Iraqi Minorities Pen 'Baghdad Declaration for Supporting Religious Freedom,' that is the first non-Middle East piece to report on a new document urging religious freedom
- A piece, Caring for Your Church's Caretakers, on how churches can help those who care for someone with Alzheimer's Disease
- A column by Frank Fain: The Golden Years
- A column by Wade Paris: Easter
- A column by Ken Satterfield: Stop Living in the Past
- A column by Terrell Carter: Overlooking the Other
- A column by Doyle Sager: The Gospel Call to Awkwardness
- And much more that can only be found in the print edition, like a feature on helping kids understand the meaning of Easter symbols
(it's nice seeing copies of the magazine out in the wild; took this at The Baptist Home in Ironton, Mo.)
