Last week I attended Election Day Communion at Harrisonburg Mennonite Church. It was a powerful service that was exactly what I needed as the long, bitter campaign came to an end. I am so grateful that this effort was created and that nearly 900 churches and groups participated (for background see my Ethics Daily article on the effort here). After the service, I passed out some "I Communed!" stickers I made. After I shared this photo on Twitter, the team behind Election Day Communion used it as one of their representative photos from the day. As I read reactions to the election on Facebook and heard post-election commentary on Christian radio, my mind kept returning to the communion service. Clearly many more Christians needed to participate! Hopefully this type of moral witness will continue to grow.
