Five Years

Five years ago today, I started this blog. At the time, I was working on my book (For God's Sake, Shut Up!) and wanted a platform to continue the dialogue about important issues. The first post was about Pat Robertson. As it turns out, he is in the news again. Robertson spoke out against a proposed mosque. The target this time, however, was not the proposed Islamic center in New York City that has sparked a lot of attention but rather one in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. Such opposition proves that the opposition to the one near "Ground Zero" is not really about the location but rather about discrimination against the religion. Robertson's opposition to this proposed mosque, and the opposition to others in Kentucky, Wisconsin, California, and elsewhere prove that the real issue here is an attempt to strip Muslims of their religious liberty rights. That is why it is a dark, dangerous path to take to begin limiting religious freedoms as some have argued we should do concerning the proposed Islamic center to be built a few blocks from Ground Zero. With many critical issues like these facing us--and many coming that we probably cannot even predict--I look forward to more discussion here in the future. So, thanks for stopping by, reading my thoughts, and offering your own comments. Oh, and stay tuned for news about my second book, which is coming out soon.

  2. Thanks!
It is revised from my doctoral dissertation and is about religious rhetoric in presidential campaigns (1976-2008).
