My latest academic article is in the recent issue of the Newspaper Research Journal (but is not free online). The article is entitled "Coverage of Terri Schiavo controversy not found to be anti-Christian." In it, I analyzed the coverage of religion and religious individuals in the New York Times, Washington Post, and USA Today during the height of the Schiavo controversy. Findings include that the three newspapers frequently dealt with religious issues, virtually ignored non-Christian perspectives, and predominately depicted religious individuals as opposed to removing Schiavo's feeding tube despite public opinion polls to the contrary. The piece raises questions about claims of an anti-Christian media bias that some Christians claimed existed during the controversy.
