Different Books, Common Word

Ethics Daily announced today that its newest documentary will air on ABC affiliates beginning January 3, 2010. This one is entitled "Different Books, Common Word: Baptists and Muslims." You can watch the trailer and some short clips here. Some of the filming was done at the first national Muslim-Baptist dialogue, which I reported on in January in Boston (see articles here, here, here, and here). Ethics Daily's most recent documentary, ""Beneath the Skin: Baptists and Racism," has won several awards and been played at some of the regional meetings of the New Baptist Covenant (see articles here and here).

  1. It's not hard to figure out who the Muslim "extremists" refer to, but who are the Baptist "extremists" who EthicsDaily.com is tired of being defined by?

I hope it's whoever bombed the Islamic Center pictured in the trailer, but I wonder--were they Baptists?

I hope that the conservative side of Baptist life--the SBC particularly--is not being referenced here.

  2. I've not seen the documentary other than the video clips online. However, I did hear from the Muslim leaders at the first National Muslim-Baptist dialogue (and many clips from that gathering are probably in the documentary). They talked about the hateful remarks that have come from some Baptists (some of whom were Southern Baptist). These remarks have hurt the relationships between our communities.
