The BGCM Message recently included a profile of David Goately, president of the North American Baptist Fellowship. Dr. Goately will be one of the speakers at the Baptist Border Crossing being held April 2-4 at Pleasant Valley Baptist Church in the Kansas City area. Here is part of the piece:

In a recent interview, Goately talked about the Baptist Border Crossing and how he sees the plans for regional gatherings like the Baptist Border Crossing as an "exciting" development. He explained that he was looking forward to seeing the "unique character" of each regional meeting as the "regional character" impacts how the events turns out.

"One of the the opinions coming out of the New Baptist Covenant last January was that there would be some regional events for collaboration," Goatley said. "I'm excited by the opportunity.

"I think it's an opportunity for some transforming experiences," he added. "When we come together, work together ... there are unanticipated benefits and blessings that come."

The photo is one I took of Dr. Goately at the dialogue between Baptist and Muslim leaders. For more information about the Baptist Border Crossing, including details about other speakers, breakout sessions, the schedule, and special hotel rates, visit the gathering's website.

David & I were colleagues in the Ph.D. program at SBTS. He is a brilliant theologian and is graciously gentle in pushing white Christians to work harder on racism. (For instance, most Africann-American Christian theologians and ministers interact constantly with white counterparts, but white ministers and theologians are almost completely ignorant of the work of their counterparts. STILL.)
