Oil Wells

Ethics Daily ran my latest article today. It is entitled "SBC Leader Misstates Environmental Impact of Oil Wells." The article notes how Richard Land, president of the Southern Baptist Convention's Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission, has falsely claimed that Hurricane Katrina did not cause a single offshore oil well to leak. In fact, a report by the U.S. Minerals Management Service noted that Hurricanes Katrina and Rita destroyed and damaged dozens of offshore oil platforms and resulted in leakage of more than 740,000 gallons of crude oil and other petroleum products. Ironically, Land insulted the intelligence of those who disagreed with his position on drilling for more oil even as he offered this incorrect claim.
