The Columbia Missourian ran my latest column today, which is entitled "Evangelicals' ties should be to Bible." The piece offers reflections on the recent document "An Evangelical Manifesto" and my hope that evangelicals will heed the call to define ourselves theologically and not politically. In the piece I also argue that Christians need to be careful not to marry ourselves to one political party.

We should be tied to our biblical values when it comes to issues, not a party.
But there will have to be prioritizing of the issues when a candidate or party has it right on some issues and wrong on others.
Abortion and marriage are the two highest-priority political issues of spiritual conviction with me, so I'm a Republican, but not married to the party.
I don't understand why any believer would be a Democrat, much less married to that party.

Your last line suggests you are sometimes putting party affiliation ahead of the issues. After all, there are pro-choice Republicans and pro-life Democrats.
