Blogger Emily Hunter McGowin posted a quotation from a Starbucks cup that she thought made an excellent point. It said:

"You can learn a lot more from listening than you can from talking. Find someone with whom you don't agree in the slightest and ask them to explain themselves at length. Then take a seat, shut your mouth, and don't argue back. It's physically impossible to listen with your mouth open."That is a great point! Many conflicts within Christianity today could be prevented if we would truly listen to each other. That is one reason why the first chapter in my book (For God's Sake, Shut Up!) is on listening. Hopefully, we will start listening to each other more. As McGowin wrote in her post, which was entitled "Shut Up":

There's a reason James says that the tongue is a "restless evil, full of deadly poison," unable to be tamed (James 3:8b). If a radio host understands the value of shutting up and listening, surely we who know the word of God should as well.Amen!

Sounds like a great premise for a book. I recently started reading books that contradict my own beliefs. As a result, I discovered some areas that needed to change, and other beliefs that were strengthened through HONESTLY listening to someone else's perspective.
