Nuts!

Last year's new television show "Jericho" was one of my favorites. As a result, I was quite upset when CBS announced last month that it was canceling the show. But now that decision has been reversed! It turns out that some creative fans put together an impressive display of support for the show that changed the minds of those at CBS. In the season finale there was discussion about the famous phrase "nuts," which was a defiant response by a U.S. officer when asked to surrender during World War II. In the show it reappeared as a sign that the people of Jericho would not surrender. Playing off that, fans sent over 50,000 pounds of peanuts to CBS. That is pretty funny!

CBS Entertainment President Nina Tassler responded:
Wow! Over the past few weeks you have put forth an impressive and probably unprecedented display of passion in support of a prime time television series. You got our attention; your emails and collective voice have been heard.

... On behalf of everyone at CBS, thank you for expressing your support of "Jericho" in such an extraordinary manner. Your protest was creative, sustained and very thoughtful and respectful in tone. You made a difference.

... P.S. Please stop sending us nuts
So who says that people cannot make a difference? By the way, CBS donated the peanuts to charity. I am excited to hear this news and I got a laugh out of the protest. It seems that a powerful and effective message can be delivered with peanuts.

I heard about that yesterday from the editor of the Bolivar Herald-Free Press. I love the creativity behind the protest (and the fact that the nuts were then donated!).

Hadn't heard that the execs actually changed their minds. What a great story!
