Texas Governor Rick Perry has been attacked a lot the last couple of months for trying to save the lives of young women who might die from a completely preventable form of cancer. Now the Texas House has voted to rescind his HPV vaccine order, and it did so with more than the amount needed to override a veto. It will still have to pass the Texas Senate, but it seems that some conservative Christians have succeeded in killing not only the vaccine order but also some young women. For more thoughts on this issue, check out my column at Ethics Daily from last month. How ironic that "compassionate conservatism" does not seem to exist in the state of the President who ran on that theme.
