Robert Parham at Ethics Daily has an insightful article on how "Baptist Bloggers Begin Addressing the War in Middle East." It offers a great collection of some of the best thoughts by bloggers on the current Israeli-Lebanon conflict (and a few of my thoughts somehow snuck in there as well).
Parham correctly notes:
Parham does, however, make a positive observation about the discussion:
Parham correctly notes:
Baptist bloggers have finally begun writing about the war between Israel and Hezbollah after weeks of blogging about Baptists and alcohol, the election of a new Southern Baptist Convention president and a host of personal esoteric issues. After he made that observation I looked around and found the silence to be shocking. The dearth of discussion on such a critical issue is quite a sad indictment of American Christianity (and that statement is firmly aimed at myself for doing much too little thus far).
Parham does, however, make a positive observation about the discussion:
They write with a much different tone than the outspoken fundamentalist preachers, one of whom said on Sunday that a war against Israel is a war against God.That is definitely a good development. We just need much more of it. It is time for us to raise our voices before more innocent people are killed. Check out the great links contained in the article as a good starting point to jump-starting our prophetic voice.
I wrote Bob Parham that he missed some blogs, like mine, which had written on this from day one. He has declined to reply or to update the article.
ReplyDeleteMichael,
ReplyDeleteThanks for letting me know about your blogging. Keep up the good work!
As for the Ethics Daily article, it is probably impossible to get all of the blogs. But the overall point is still true that most are ignoring it.
