Here is an interesting article about Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld calling for the military and the government to learn to use the media better: Rumsfeld Urges Using Media to Fight Terror.
Rumsfeld argues, "Victory in the long war ultimately depends on strategic communication. ... Our enemies have skillfully adapted to fighting wars in today's media age, but for the most part we, our country, our government, has not."
Rumsfeld calls for public affairs officials for the military to get more communications training. Regardless what one thinks of Rumsfeld or his analysis of the situation, it is good to see someone recognizing the value of communication abilities. In some ways this is similar to what I have been calling for—more Christians to learn how to effectively communicate their beliefs.
The ability to communicate is extremely important. Rumsfeld thinks it could make the difference between winning and losing in Iraq. For him it is an issue of life and death; for us it is about eternal life and death. Thus it is critical for us to become more effective communicators!
