Bible History

Kanye West, who recently appeared on the cover of Rolling Stones magazine as Jesus, now claims the Bible should be revised to include him. He stated:

"I bring up historical subjects in a way that makes kids want to learn about them. I'm an inspirational speaker. I changed the sound of music more than one time. ... For all those reasons, I'd be a part of the Bible. I'm definitely in the history books already."

Regardless of what one may think of West, whose hit song "Jesus Walks" suggests he is sincerely religious even if at times misguided, it is interesting to see the reasons he offers as to why he should be in the Bible. It is all about history—he teaches people about history and has made music history. Is that all the Bible is to him? Is it just a history book?

Some Christians argue that the Bible should be used as a history textbook in public schools. But what is even more important to remember about the Bible is that it can lead us to God. If we reduce it to a mere historical textbook then we devalue it. Let us all be more careful to communicate the importance of the Bible not for its historical records but for its messages about God.
