Here is a story over at Ethics Daily about thefts of baby Jesus figurines from Nativity scenes. The article is about how excited people were to get them back. Here are two quotations that seemed kind of disturbing.
Reverend Kenneth Murphy said, "I feel blessed. I feel like I am a dad who got his baby back."
Rose Marie Pedro stated, "I was upset. I didn't think I would get it back. ... But I got my baby now."
Has the baby Jesus become our American idol? What happened to not making any graven images? Have we reduced our Lord and Savior to a mere glowing chunk of plastic? It would be great if we showed as much concern about lost people as we do about lost Jesus dolls!
