Here's a story about an unmarried Catholic school teacher who was fired after getting pregnant. CNN.com - Fired pregnant teacher sues Catholic school - Nov 22, 2005 She stated:
"I don't understand how a religion that prides itself on forgiving and on valuing life could terminate me because I'm pregnant and choosing to have this baby."
The article makes the point that it is a double-standard since a man is unlikely to be found out and thus could keep teaching. Another issue is that she could have had an abortion and kept her job. Is that what the school would prefer?! As a result of the firing, the next unmarried Catholic school teacher who gets pregnant may just get an abortion to keep her job. Shouldn't this teacher be applauded for keeping her baby?
I think Jesus would have forgiven her and would have likely started writing in the sand until the accusers dropped their stones and walked away (but then again, Jesus would not likely be hired by most Christian schools today—something about the long hair and comments challenging religious leaders).

I find it amusing that people who don't read Scripture are always think they know what Jesus would say. Jesus is the God of life, love, mercy, AND justice. He never let anyone off the hook. Before He forgave, the people repented. "Go and sin no more" is what He said.Sex outside of marriage is not something He tolerated. READ THE BIBLE...PLEASE
ReplyDeleteWhat I find amusing (actually sad) is that you assume I have not read the Bible. Maybe before you cast a stone you should check out the facts. Not only I have read the entire Bible (and memorized much of it), but I have served as a pastor and studied theology both at a Christian college and a seminary.
ReplyDeleteAs I read the Bible (especially the words of Jesus) I find much more talk about love and forgiveness than judgment and condemnation. Yes, it is there, but that is not why Jesus came to world. As we are reminded in John 3:16-17:
“For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God sent the Son into the world, not to condemn the world, but that the world might be saved through him.”
Anon,
ReplyDeleteYou Jesus was a real hardass with regard to sinners. He forgave and punished them for their sins. Last time I checked, the "justice" of God was taken to the cross with Jesus. Why do Christians still feel the need to beat up on people for their sins?
