Addressing Global Poverty

Addressing Global Poverty
The Baptist Center for Ethics has released a great resource for addressing global poverty: “Always ... Therefore: The Church’s Challenge of Global Poverty.” The new DVD and accompanying study guide are designed to educate, equip, and empower Christians to cooperatively address global poverty.

“Always ... Therefore” is a 28-minute video on ways the Christian church can actively engage in feeding a hungry world. The DVD and its companion online study guide explore the biblical witness about feeding the hungry and what goodwill Baptists are doing cooperatively to pursue that biblical mandate. Both the DVD and study guide have four chapters: Realism & Responsibility, Relief, Rehabilitation & Development, and Renewing Justice.

The resource has a twofold goal:
1. Explore the biblical mandate to feed the hungry. Baptists are people of the book. The book is our moral compass.
2. Raise the level of awareness about and deepen the commitment to what good will Baptists are doing through Baptist World Aid and its partners to be faithful to the biblical mandate.

“Always ... Therefore” features interviews with the following Baptist leaders:
• Alistair Brown, general director, Baptist Missionary Society World Mission, Oxfordshire, United Kingdom
• Joe Haag, coordinator, Texas Baptist Offering for World Hunger, Baptist General Convention of Texas
• Paul Montacute, director, Baptist World Aid, Falls Church, Virginia
• Robert Parham, executive director, Baptist Center for Ethics, Nashville, Tennessee
• Suzii Paynter, director, Christian Life Commission, Baptist General Convention of Texas

This resource is something every church should seriously consider using. To learn more about it, watch a clip, and order your copy today, click here. I am excited that the Baptist General Convention of Missouri is one organization that helped make this resource possible and is offering it free to any Missouri Baptist church. It is time for Christians to lead the way in addressing and reducing poverty around the world!
