Denying Water!

Here is a shocking story about Southern Baptist relief workers not giving water to Hurricane survivors who needed it. Welcome to Ethics Daily.com!

A few weeks ago I talked about how because of relief efforts Southern Baptists and other Christians were getting lots of good press that helps improve the image of Christians. And then this happens! I thirst for the day when all Christians would follow the example of Jesus.

  3. That is a really good question (sorry I couldn’t find your blog, so I hope you come back to read this). My hope is to help Christians communicate more effectively—and I think that overall we are quite bad at that right now. When Christian leaders shoot off their mouths it reflects poorly on all Christians, and ultimately on our Lord and Savior. We are Christ’s ambassadors to the world (see 2 Corinthians 5:20). If we represent Him poorly then we could drive people away from His love forever—and that’s a pretty huge reason to urge Christians to be careful what they say.

Mahatmas Gandhi once said, “I like your Christ, I do not like your Christians. Your Christians are so unlike your Christ.” Gandhi never became a Christian because he was rejected by the church due to the color of his skin. Yet, few people have displayed the humility and love of Jesus like Gandhi. How many others have we turned away?

Therefore, my hope for this site is threefold. First, I think we can learn from the failures and the successes of others, and so I will point out both on this site (though we often learn the most from failures). Second, it is also important to help point out to our brothers and sisters when they are doing things that could hurt the Kingdom. While those I mention here are unlikely to read it (yet), I pray that they will be convicted to watch their mouths more carefully. Finally, I hope to start a dialogue (that is desperately needed) so that Christians will at least begin to think about the impact of their words before they say them. Hopefully, we can teach each other how to be more effective communicators of our beliefs, and correct each other when we fail so that we can avoid making the same mistakes again.

I am open to criticisms and suggestions. So please let me know if you think I am off target or responded poorly in a post. Thanks!
